Long distance route through France along the Atlantic Coast

Velodyssey is one of the Euro Velo routes (EuroVelo1) and covers over 1200km from Brittany to the Spanish boarder with 80% of the route on designated car free cycle paths. The route takes you along the Atlantic coast crossing 4 regions and 10 departments and is also known as the Atlantic Coast Route.

The Velodyssey web site gives the traveller loads of useful information and breaks the journey down into 15 manageable sections which are further broken down into stages giving detailed maps, accommodation, cycle hire and tips on what to see and visit. As such the Velodyssey route is versatile and is suitable for all types of tourist, from families to long distance cyclists.

The sections include great cities such as Nantes - with its green city status and querky sights, La Rochelle - boasting an impressive old port and Bayonne - famous for its cured ham. The route takes you through a range of scenery, culture and climates as it makes its way south.

The site has a very informative section on practical info, and this offers guides on areas such as safety, hiring bikes, cross channel connections with the UK and preparing for your trip.
